I guess for mine, having a whole setup with this area is ice, this area is fire etc.. is passe. But that's a personal opinion. I guess to much Deathgate cycle and the like in my youth. This isn't to say you can't have themes for each world, but if it is immediately clear what it is, steps are often taken by the players to reduce the impact that world has. Set them up, for example they find themselves in a ruined city, that as they explore, particularly if they start in a large building, like a palace, tower, keep, or depending on where, it could be a skyscraper, they discover that the place is flooded, reaching different parts of the city, or escaping the city, requires a mix of city type skills and water navigation skills.
Also, if the separation of the world was traumatic, it is likely that the weather is going to be really nasty.
