This is a bit old now... but rumour in the UK has it that David Tennant might be leaving Doctor Who after the next season.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7145965.stm

If they keep burning through regenerations like this, the BBC will run out of Doctors soon.

But the question becomes... did his regenerations get reset when he became human and was then returned to Time-Lord status?

Apparently David Tennant has denied this rumour, saying he hasn't made his mind up yet. There's a comment at the end of an article on ninemsn where he denies it...

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=339283

Quote:
Meanwhile, Tennant has rubbished rumours he is about to leave the show.

Speculation was rife that he was ready to leave after the show's new assistant Catherine Tate said she believed the next series would be Tennant's last.

"Catherine Tate stitched me up good and proper," Tennant said at yesterday's screening.

"Unbeknownst to me, she thinks I've made a decision — she'd clearly had too much coffee that morning.

"She said I was leaving, which was a decision I haven't made yet … I'm going to keep people guessing for as long as possible."

I've often wondered if the powers that be will extend the Doctor's lifespan past his 12th regeneration. Hopefully they will. As Tim would say -

"Just keep making it"

Can't They just keep making it up.
Like the authority who created the rule only 12 regenerations could re-decree reset the 12 back to 0.

This has happened before... I believe the Master was given a new cycle of regenerations some time after reaching his final regeneration.

The Time Lords reanimated him during the time wars. He was also offered new regeneration cycles during the Five Doctors, but I'm not sure if the promise was kept.

David Tennant has signed on for series 4 which will star Catherine Tate as the latest assistant in 2008. Series 5 in 2009 is a little iffy though - David will be concentrating more on his royal shakespear company plays (or something like that) and therefore Dr Who in 2009 will only be 3 special episodes similar to that of the xmas specials. There will also be an xmas special that year (so 5 'special' episodes all-in-all). Beyond that I either can't remember or haven't found out yet - I can't remember which. But I'll keep you informed.
