I'm glad to hear that Peter Jackson is doing the Hobbit movies. There's no way that New Line Cinema could have got another director to do the movies, there would have been a riot amongst the fans.
However, I am interested to see that there is two movies... the Hobbit and the sequel to the Hobbit. Does this mean that they are cutting the book into two? Admittaly, it has been a long time since I read the Hobbit... was it written in two books?

It is one book, but the story does ramble a bit and I can imagine how it could be teased apart into seperate episodes. It is much more of an adventure story than LOTR which is more of a war story.
